CURT HAGMAN OFFERS REWARD TO CATCH CAMPAIGN SIGN THIEVES
CHALLENGES CANDIDATES TO KEEP ELECTION HONEST
CHINO HILLS, CA – Today Curt Hagman announced that he is offering a $5000 reward to anyone who provides information that leads to the arrest and conviction of person or persons that are caught removing and stealing campaign signs from homes and private commercial property.
According to Hagman and his team, campaign signs that were placed just days before are disappearing from prominent locations all over San Bernardino County’s 4th Supervisor District, which includes the cities of Chino, Chino Hills, Montclair, Ontario, and Upland. He is also receiving phone calls from neighbors and supporters who are reporting signs have been stolen from their private front yards. And he is not the only one. Other local candidates have also expressed their frustration with vanishing signs.
While tampering with campaign signs is not a new concept in heated political races, it is not something that should be brushed aside. Stealing signs is a petty theft misdemeanor which could also include trespassing charges, and the consequences can carry a maximum penalty of a $1000 fine or up to six months in prison.
“Beyond the punishment, it is just dirty politics,” said Hagman. “People have the right to support the candidate of their choice without being subjected to property theft, trespassing, and violation of their free speech. Interfering with the election process is not the way to win. I ask all candidates to respect the rules and challenge them to offer similar rewards to keep our campaigning honest.”
If you have any information or if you see any suspicious campaign sign activity, please contact your local police department: San Bernardino County Sheriff, Chino Hills Station (909) 364-2000; Chino Hills Police (909) 628-1234; Montclair Police (909) 621-4771; Ontario Police (909) 395-2001; Upland Police (909) 946-7624.
Curt Hagman is running against Congresswoman Gloria Negrete McLeod this November to serve as 4th District San Bernardino County Supervisor.
